Middle School

Grades 6-8

The middle school program takes the critical thinking skills and academic concepts that were taught in the elementary program and takes students to the next level in English, math, science, social studies and Bible. By building on their foundation of academics, established as elementary students, middle schoolers will prepare for the rigors of high school courses and begin to identify areas in which they have interests and may wish to challenge themselves through honors courses at the high school level. Students also have opportunities to explore elective subjects such as computer, art, drama, music and journalism and nurture specific talents and interests.

Curriculum & Testing
Hernando Christian Academy offers a challenging, academically rigorous college preparatory education within the frame of Christian principles and values. A wide variety of learning experiences are available for students through excellent textbooks and materials which are utilized by our outstanding faculty to meet the varied learning styles and academic levels and needs of students. The curriculum highlights a Christian worldview and emphasizes encouraging students to cultivate strong moral principles and personal ethical standards while developing their individual relationships with Christ.

Middle School students take the Terra Nova Achievement Test each spring. The TerraNova, Third Edition Multiple Assessments measures important higher-order thinking skills as well as basic and applied skills. These assessments generate norm-referenced achievement scores, criterion-referenced objective mastery scores, and performance-level information.

Features:

  • 1. Includes reading, language, mathematics, science, and social studies tests
  • 2. The only standardized achievement test to combine selected-response items with constructed-response items
  • 3.Asks students to produce their own responses
